About Utah's Online Public Library

Utah’s Online Public Library (UOPL) is a digital library created by the Utah State Library Division in cooperation with Utah’s public libraries. The purpose is to serve Utah residents and state agency employees by providing quality information resources.

UOPL resources include premium research databases and library reading apps. Premium resources are purchased through the RFP process by the Utah State Library for Utah's public libraries and Utah residents.

This website also includes a collection of curated open access resources from vetted government, higher education, and public domain sources.

Our Partners

UOPL is the public library component of the statewide Utah’s Online Library project. Utah’s Online Academic Library is designed to meet the needs of university and college students. Utah’s Online School Library is designed for primary and secondary school students and teachers. Preschool Path, for children ages 3-6, was launched in the fall of 2008.

Our History

Utah's Online Library, formerly the Pioneer Online Library, was founded in 1995 by the Utah State Library, Utah Education Network, and Utah Academic Library Consortium. The purpose was to create a virtual library that provided statewide access to premium research databases. Pioneer changed its name to Utah’s Online Library in 2016 to better reflect the nature of our services to Utahns.

Note to Parents

Parents should be aware that children have access to all materials in the online library. Utah’s Online Public Library does not monitor or restrict your child’s selections. It is your responsibility as a parent to be aware of what your child is checking out and viewing.
