Find digital resources of historical significance from a variety of digital collections in Utah. Some of the collections material is rare, hard-to-find and may be unavailable anywhere else. You can find digitized photographs, manuscripts texts, maps, audio & video recordings, transcripts, books, yearbooks, newspapers, theses and dissertations, and digital exhibits, as well as born digital items.

Each of these collections provide free, online access to digitized material. Copyright terms may exist.

American West Center, The University of Utah

Mountain West Digital Library

The MWDL is a central search portal for digital collections about the Mountain West region. Free access to over 1,000,000 resources from a network of universities, colleges, public libraries, museums, historical societies, and government agencies, counties, and municipalities in Utah, Nevada, Oregon, and other parts of the U.S. West.

Ski and Snow Sports Archive, J. Willard Marriott Digital Library, The University of Utah

The archives document the history of ski competition on local, national, and international levels; the founding of major resorts; snow safety and avalanche control; ski equipment; ski instruction; freestyle skiing; the 10th Mountain Division; back-country skiing; and virtually every facet of winter sports in Utah and the surrounding region. The archives are the repository for the Salt Lake Winter Olympics Games Bid Committee records and the records of the 2002 games themselves.

Snow College Digital Collections

Snow College Digital Collections feature college newspapers, catalogs, and yearbooks, as well as local history from the area.

Southern Utah University (SUU) Archival Collections

SUU Archival Collections feature Utah history, southern Utah, the life and works of William Shakespeare and the Native Americans of southern Utah, in particular the Paiute Indian Tribe.

State of Utah Alice Merrill Horne Art Collection, Utah Division of Arts and Museums

The State of Utah Alice Merrill Horne Art Collection (Utah’s state-owned art collection) began in 1899. Alice Merrill Horne was a candidate for the state legislature on a platform of support for the arts. Once she was elected to the House of Representatives, she sponsored a bill to create a state arts organization and to establish a state collection of artwork. The ongoing acquisition of artwork by Utah artists comes from purchases selected by the Art Acquisition Committee and generous donations from patrons and artists.

Utah American Indian Digital Archive (UAIDA)

UAIDA is a gateway to the best resources regarding Utah’s Indian tribes. With articles, books, government documents, tribal documents, oral histories, photographs, and maps pertaining to the Northwestern Shoshone, Goshute, Paiute, Utah Navajo, White Mesa Ute, and Northern Ute Indians.

UDN is a keyword-searchable statewide digital newspaper repository that offers 6.3 million pages from 374 newspapers.

Utah State Digital Archives

Online access from the Utah State Archives is worldwide, giving patrons the ability to research any time, anywhere, for free. Utah State Archives focuses on providing access to collections with full archival context.

Utah State Historical Society Digital Collections

Since 1897, the Utah Division of State History/Utah State Historical Society has been preserving and sharing Utah's history. Over 275,000 of our photographs, manuscripts, and films are digitized.

USU's Digital History Collections showcase unique historical and cultural heritage content from USU's Special Collections & Archives as well as community partners. This material is created and preserved by USU Libraries and made available to users worldwide.

Utah Valley University (UVU) Digital Collections

These collections include materials that document the history and development of UVU, such as photographs, school publications, and oral histories. Also includes UVU research and scholarship, regional history, and art collections.

Western Waters Digital Library (WWDL)

The WWDL provides free public access to a wide range of significant resources on water in the Western United States. Available resources include classic water literature, legal transcripts, maps, reports, personal papers, water project records, photographs, audio recordings, videos, and other material.

Westminster Digital Archives, Giovale Library

The Giovale Library digital collections consist of digitized documents and photographs relating to the history of Westminster College from its inception as the Salt Lake Collegiate Institute, founded in 1875, to the present. The collections also include material dealing with the early history of the Presbyterian Church in Utah and southern Idaho. Includes yearbooks, photographs, and Theses, lectures, and Westminster College projects.
